


Development Cooperation Course

University Committee in Nicaragua 2008:
The project introduced four students from the University of Seville to development cooperation through a short introductory course of initiation to cooperation for international development. This included a 10 day trip to Nicaragua to visit and participate in projects developed by the association DECCO International. The committee of students were incorporated during 6 days on a project to support the disabled population in CEDECAP (Centre for Special Skills Development) in the department of Rivas, as well as the visit to three other projects of the association DECCO International located in the northwest of the Nicaragua.
University Cooperation in the Península de Cosiguina, Nicaragua 2006:
The project was carried out by the Association DECCO International and the environmental organization SELVA (Somos Ecologistas en Lucha por la Vida y el Ambiente, We are Ecologists Fighting for Life and the Environment). This project consisted of a selection of four students from the University of Seville and a ten day stay in Nicaragua. During this time the students participated in activities in the realm of social-cultural awareness, focusing on the problems of development and cooperation in this region of Nicaragua.
The course will address the stages of a development cooperation project: Identification, Formulation, Implementation,Monitoring and Evaluation. Also it will address the importance of participation, type of social actors who can intervene as well as the viability and the sustainability of the action to take.

The methologic instrument of planification used is the logical framework approach, which is also used in designing local projects.
Understanding of the theoretical aspects will rely on the performance of a participatory assignment and will include the identification, formulation and evaluation of a fictional project.

Furthermore the course provides an advisory service to the beneficiary entities, providing further support in the completion and submission of its final proposals for social development projects in favour of the immigrant population.
